Border Force dog Warner has a nose for sniffing out crime

Like any good dog with a bone, Warner doesn't give up. He's only two years old, has a wet nose, loves his biscuits but also has the power to put away some of the most brazen drug smugglers.

This labrador pup makes up half of one of Sydney's detector dog teams, who are tasked with protecting Australia's borders.

When Woman's Day met Border Force officer DJ and his furry sidekick Warner inside Sydney Airport's international terminal last month, the pup was eager to please, bounding across the gate to get to his trusty toy, his big paws too big for his gangly frame. But what the two-year-old lacks in height, he makes up for in power as he leaps into DJ's arms.

"He still acts like a puppy," DJ, 30, laughs. "Warner sometimes gets distracted by kids, they're the same height as him and when he sees them, he just wants to lick their face.

"He's a funny dog but somewhat of a hazard as well!"
