Smiling and waving to the crowds from the Buckingham Palace balcony, the Princess of Wales made a triumphant return to royal life at the Trooping the Colour parade, her beloved husband and three young children by her side.
It was Kate's first public appearance since revealing her cancer diagnosis and the joy was evident as revellers lined the street to cheer on the official celebrations for King Charles III’s birthday. Even the miserable London weather couldn’t put a dampener on the big day!
Dressed in a stylish, upcycled Jenny Packham dress, the princess, 42, greeted wellwishers from a carriage, before joining Prince William, 41, and their kids, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, up on the balcony for the grand flyover.
Her proud father-in-law, 75, who is also undergoing treatment for cancer, was especially grateful she could join in the festivities. A palace insider tells Woman’s Day that Charles was “in absolute awe” of brave Kate, who has spent the past six months undergoing treatment for a non-specific cancer away from the spotlight.
“Her appearance was so important to the family and the public – it marked a return to normalcy that people need right now,” our source says. “Everyone wanted to fuss over Kate, but Charles was protective of her, not wanting her to feel stressed out.”
Veteran royal correspondent Jennie Bond adds that Kate was relieved to be able to support her family, explaining, "Events like this are still a big deal and perhaps a bit of an ordeal for her little family. The children need their mum alongside them to encourage, guide and support them as thousands of people gawk at them, and millions more watch on TV.
