At the age of 19, Amy contracted a deadly bacterial infection that required both her legs to be amputated from the knee down. She'd always loved to snowboard, so after receiving prosthetic legs, Amy took up the sport again, eventually competing in the Paralympics and winning medals. "My life has been split into 20-year segments. Version one was living life normally with my real legs, and version two of me was pushing myself physically to figure out what I was capable of," she says. Version three of Amy talks to large corporations and groups across the world as a keynote speaker and, with her husband, runs the nonprofit Adaptive Action Sports (adacs.org), which provides programs, resources, and more for young adults with disabilities who want to participate in action sports. While this version of Amy knows her limits, she wants to help others realize what's possible for them. "The secret to feeling fulfilled is making a positive impact in somebody else's life," she says. "I'm happiest when I can contribute."
