<p>A winner at the World Architecture Festival in 2022, this unique building in Sydney&rsquo;s Darlinghurst was originally built as a gathering place for churchgoers, then a private residence. More recently, SJB Architects sensitively reimagined the space to offer flexibility for a range of functions, from gallery installations to events, meeting rooms and incubator hubs for its new occupant, the Paul Ramsay Foundation. With sustainable design principles a priority, the project required expert knowledge of past practices and new technologies. Existing elements were retained and given new life, including the original pipe organ, the largest in the southern hemisphere. All furniture and heritage items such as unused doors were recorded for either re-use in the project or future storage, while the lower ground-floor parquetry was carefully removed and re-used on the new floor in the same space. Taking elements from&nbsp;Verona&rsquo;s Castelvecchio Museum, curating the spacial experience was very important, with plinths, bridges, doorways and staircases arranged in playful ways, while the existing fabric of the structure was left intact to shine through. <p>The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) 2023 program includes major solo exhibitions of work by contemporary Australian artists Michael Zavros and eX de Medici concurrently from 24 June until 2 October. &ldquo;<em>Michael Zavros: The Favourite</em>&rdquo; will feature more than 90 works of painting, sculpture, video, photography and performance by the Queensland artist, while the retrospective &ldquo;<em>eX de Medici: Beautiful Wickedness</em>&rdquo; (pictured is a work by the same name) will be the most extensive exhibition to date of the Canberra-based artist&rsquo;s practice. qagoma.qld.gov.au</p>
