THEATRE bosses have put a trigger warning on The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. A show by the Royal Ballet and ZooNation could make punters “uncomfortable”, they say. The mental health-themed show is “an energetic remix of Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland by hip-hop company ZooNation”. But guidance issued for the “near-the-knuckle” production warns: “This performance portrays mental health challenges and associated trauma that may be uncomfortable for some. “It was devised alongside those with lived experience, however, we acknowledge that everyone’s experience of mental health is different.” The adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s traditional tale is at London’s Linbury Theatre from September 4 to 24. An explanation of the content reads: “Set in a dysfunctional institution, the Queen of Hearts has anger issues, Alice is confused about just how big or small her body actually is. “The Mad Hatter, suffering from mercury poisoning, never wants to stop having tea.”
