GW is back to championing young talent, and this month we meet 17-year-old Matt Underwood – a young turner with bags of enthusiasm with a very bright future ahead of him. Matt is our cover star this month and it’s a pleasure to feature him.

We also have some great projects covered, including a chopping board made from colourful ‘rainbow’ wood to brighten up your kitchen; a pallet workbench especially for kids; a stylish pallet coffee table for your living room; a Mission-style mirror and three different bowl designs for you to turn.

Michael Huntley is also back with another installment in his ‘small structures’ series, which sees him moving on to discussing the interesting part of the build: the roof; and John Bullar continues his beginners’ series by looking at choosing and using hand saws.

We also have some great features lined up for you, including an in-depth look at the ‘Alpha’ chair by Made in Ratio, which forms this month’s Centrefold; we speak to Tim Lawson from the Port Townsend School of Woodworking in Maine about preserving the tradition of fine craftsmanship; and Andy King discovers there’s a lot more to veneer than meets the eye when he pays a visit to Freed Veneers in Leighton Buzzard, as well as finding the time to test some great kit.

We also have a great competition from StandSafe Workwear, which gives you the opportunity to win 1 of 5 full workwear outfits, each worth over £80.
All this and much more in GW306, which hits the shelves on 27 May – don’t miss it!
