2019 has ended with the nationwide unrest caused due to the introduction of the Citizenship Amendment Bill on December 11, 2019. Our cover story this month has highlighted on this heated issue which has been subjected to widespread criticism specially on the fact that Muslim community has been made in-eligible for this bill. Corona Virus has put the whole world under lockdown. All economic activities has come to a standstill. People are dying at an alarming rate. When we compare the death rate in India with the rest of the world, India is very much praiseworthy. In the North Eastern Region of India, the spread of this virus is within manageable limit. dispute arised at Punjabi Lane locally known as THEM IEW MAWLONG. Not only has the situation become worst to the extent that Government was forced to claim curfew which has affected the economy very badly.

The Tug Of War for the Citizenship Amendment Bill in the Northeast of India and
more so in Assam is an issue which will decide the faith of the entire Northeast of
India and more so the country in the times to come. We have tried to give brief details about the bill and take the views from both the parties who are for and against the bill. The issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill is not only sensitive but also very complicated in nature. As the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has re-iterated that all the Hindus who migrated from Bangladesh will be granted Indian Citizenship, but the indigenous Assamese communities and people of northeast India are simply not willing to accept this as the probability of them becoming minority in their own states is significantly high. There is also the feeling of threat to their Indigenous Language and Culture. In such circumstances, political maturity is required to settle the issue.
