The first time I saw Vempati Ravi Shankar dance was in 1992 when he was practising a simple jati, yet I was spellbound. That was my first day at the Kuchipudi Art Academy and I wished to dance like Ravi. When he taught he transferred that energy, grace, and fluidity. A selfless teacher, Vempati Ravi Shankar, gave his all to his students, but he was very demanding. He expected total dedication to the art. For him Kuchipudi was the way of life.
