OWNERS of older horses have been urged to carry out routine tests for PPID (pituitary pars intermedia dysfunction), previously known as Cushing’s.
The recommendation follows analysis of data gathered via the Talk About Laminitis (TAL) awareness initiative, which has seen more than 47,000 horses tested for PPID since TAL was launched in 2012.
The data revealed that a horse aged between 15 and 20 is three times more likely to have PPID than a horse under 10 and the risk increases with age.
