This month the civic was in development mode as top hose bods racing lines used the car to design a new modular fuel return system to be used with their existing fuel rail kit.
Last month you may remember a set of shiny red coil packs adorning these pages with the intention of them being fitting soon after and a report on their performance laid out for your perusal. However, as is often the case with tuning, we soon discovered a slight issue that threw a spanner in the works of our timescales. You see, to allow the coilpacks to work at their best, we would need to remap the car’s Honda K100 ECU, increasing the spark’s dwell time in relation to the improved performance of the coils. However, when we approached Honda specialist Guy Chamberlain of Sheerness-based CPL Racing, he highlighted an area that he felt should be addressed first in order to get the best results from any mapping that was to be carried out. The issue that he brought to our attention was to do with the fuel system and our lack of a fuel return line to the tank.
To be honest, this was not something we had considered with the build, but upon doing some research we soon realised, while not strictly essential, it was certainly a worthwhile upgrade to make to ensure we were maximising the potential of the engine setup.
