Ally Shaw’s truck driving career spans 43 years and he’s seen most places and done most things from handballing sacks onto the back of an AEC Mandator and then roping and sheeting the load, to touring Europe in state-of-the-art Volvos and Scanias delivering oil and gas equipment. But his current job with Five Star Vehicle Deliveries, a total departure from anything he’s done before, has taken him to new parts of the country even he hasn’t seen before.
“I’ve known the company owner James Gibb for a long time through rallying and we would speak regularly” explains Ally, whose other major passion aside from trucking is, unsurprisingly, rally cars. He even did a bit of rallying himself back in the day with a 1600 crossflow powered Mk1 Escort.
James loves his rallying too and has competed in both an Impreza and an Evo, and has a BMW in development at the moment.
James was looking for a driver for his rigid Scania transporter and Ally admitted that although he’d never done any transporting work before, he wanted a change and fancied a go. “James said ‘Really? Ok if you’re serious about the job, come down to the yard and we’ll do some training, I’ll show you how it all works.’”
