A group of bikers visit the Rann of Kutch!
AFTER my Goa ride last November, I was itching to go for a long ride again. This was in the month of February 2017; we had a long weekend that month and so made the best use of this opportunity. I always had a thing for the Rann of Kutch (ROK), who wouldn’t like to visit such a magnificent place covered with pristine white sand as far as your eyes can see.
The Great Rann of Kutch, there are no words to describe the scenic beauty of this place. The best part of ROK is the sunrise and sunset
DAY 1 MUMBAI – DHOLAVIRA
Me and four of my friends, who all are part of LOST (League of Super Tourers), began our journey from Vashi, Navi Mumbai at 3.30 AM. We were greeted by the infamous traffic (Road work on NH48) of Ghodbunder Road as soon as we started our ride. Soon we were on super smooth roads of NH48 and since we were on bikes which can maintain decent speeds it helped us cover those kilometres quickly.
We reached Dholavira at 9.00 PM; where we had booked in advance at Dholavira Tourism Resort. We had our dinner there and called it a day. Food was traditional Gujarati sabji, kadi & rotis. Nothing like home cooked food after riding more than 900 km.
DAY-2 SIGHTSEEING AT DHOLAVIRA
Dholavira is an archaeological site. The site contains remains of the Indus Valley civilization. The place is considered to be the second largest Harappan site in India and fifth largest in the Indian sub-continent. Remember those history lessons in school. Since Dholavira is 220 km from Bhuj few people go there, we weren’t sure how it would turn out. We were witnessing a 4000+ year old Indus Valley which gives a vivid glimpse into the town planning, social structure and civil engineering of those times. Hire a local guide to understand and enjoy the magnificent history of this site when you visit.
