Digitizing Healthcare Services

Information and communications technology (ICT) has the power to address healthcare problems today. Through telemedicine – the term for clinical healthcare from a distance – startups enable rural and urban areas easy access to cost-effective and high-quality medical services—simply by using cell phones or computers. Leading the pack is healthcare startup Halodoc, which allows people to connect with licensed doctors, pharmacies and medical laboratory services.

“Our mission is to simplify access to healthcare for those with and without full medical support,” says Jonathan Sudartha, CEO and Co-Founder Halodoc.

Founded back in 2016, Halodoc now has more than 22,000 licensed doctors, from general practitioners to specialists, on its platform. It partners with 1,200 pharmacies and 100 hospitals and has two million users across Indonesia.

Halodoc’s website and mobile app platform allow users to pick preferred doctors with price points from Rp35,000 per 15 minutes consultations, depending on the doctor. The interaction with doctors could be done through video calls, voice calls, or simply a basic chat. It also enables customers to purchase medicine (prescribed and non-prescribed) from the nearest pharmacies and Go-Jek drivers will deliver them within less than an hour. For those who need a laboratory test, it is possible to do so without visiting a laboratory test center. For this kind of service, Halodoc partners with Prodia Widyahusada, a publicly listed clinical laboratory services provider.
