Far from dull, this dark-themed apartment by Joey Khu Designs engages with myriad details, textures, and light play.

Interior designer Joey Khu has come to develop a distinctive style. His residential works feature richly patterned marble, meticulous carpentry, and a finely curated art and furniture selection. The lighting design is also notable, not just in its choice of lighting fixtures that – depending on the piece and placement – accent display niches or bring focus to various parts of home-like pieces of art themselves. It also considers how natural light is amplified or tempered through his choice of wall colors and textures.

It is this alluring concoction that convinced the owners of this apartment to select Khu as their interior designer. It is also why they have given him a free hand, down to choosing the decorative objects with a firm belief in his curatorial expertise to craft a harmonious and multi-faceted home. “Being in the real estate line, they have seen numerous sales galleries, so they appreciate good design. They wanted a modern and luxurious home,” says Khu, who heads his eponymous interior design studio.
