With the introduction of their first all-electric sports car, Porsche’s Taycan marks the beginning of a new era for the German company as it systematically expands its product range of all-electric vehicles. The four-door sports saloon is a unique package offering outstanding Porsche performance and easy, everyday drivability. The first models in the new series are the Taycan TurboS, Taycan Turbo, and Taycan 4S.
These cars are at the cutting edge of Porsche E-Performance and are among the most powerful production models that the sports car manufacturer currently has in its product range. Less powerful variants of these all-wheel-drive vehicles will follow next year.
Performance Finally Gets Efficient
Above all else, this car is fast, powerful, and fun to drive. The Taycan 4S can blast from zero to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h. The standard Performance Battery delivers up to 390 kW (530 PS) via over boost power in conjunction with Porsche’s rapid start Launch Control system. The Taycan 4S has a pretty decent range of up to 365 kilometers with the standard Performance Battery and 414 kilometers with the Performance Battery Plus. The Taycan cars are the first production vehicles with a system voltage of 800 volts instead of the usual 400 volts found in most electric cars. Having a high voltage means you can lower the amperage needed to drive the motors, which is a good thing.
