Just what makes a classic car? Well, the dictionary defines it as an automobile that’s more than 20 years old, but it’s important to remember that age isn’t the only thing that creates a classic. To become a true classic, a car needs to have a few other things like beauty, originality, rarity, and what you might call ‘personality’.
To prove this point, Ferrari has been working overtime to create a custom supercar that will no doubt be hailed as a classic, without waiting the mandatory 20 years.
Over the past few months, a mysterious Ferrari has been seen doing shakedowns while taking laps around the Fiorano test circuit in Modena, Italy. While the roar of its V12 engine booming around the track may have sounded familiar to some, the car’s dramatic good looks and unique design made it a real head-turner. This new car has a big personality with the looks and muscle to back it up. Ferrari even developed a new red shade for the Omologata (the new car’s name) called Rosso Magma, or Magma Red in English.
It’s evident from the first look that the new Ferrari Omologata is a clear descendent of the Italian company’s outstanding GT tradition that has spanned seven decades of motoring history. For those who don’t know, a grand tourer (GT) is a type of sports car that is designed for high speed and long-distance driving due to a heady combination of performance and luxury attributes.
The configuration is often a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive two-door coupé with either two-seats in the front or, sometimes, the addition of two smaller seats in the rear. GTS are usually the coupé derivative of their luxury saloon counterparts.
