Role of DCR will Reduce Over a Period of Time

Kindly tell our readers about Renewable Energy Corporation’s (REC) core business and its operations, globally.

REC is a 20 year old company and is registered in Europe as REC Solar. We are a fully integrated panel manufacturer and are engaged in the production of polysilicon, wafer blocks, wafers and cells. Originally, we are a Norway based company and we shifted our operational headquarters in early 2010 to Singapore. We have a wafer, cell and module line with a module capacity of 1.3 GW. We are also restarting our old REC line, which is a 950 MW wafer blocks line. We have manufacturing facilities in Norway and Singapore.

In the panel segment, we have displayed the next generation prototypes and we have a flurry of products coming in the next 3-6 months. The Twin Peak technology was given the innovation award at the Inter solar event in 2015. This technology integrates two modules in one laminate for better absorption of sunlight, which gives better yield and more wattage. As of now, 90% of this product is going to the US but we are upgrading our lines in Singapore as well.

Do you have any manufacturing facilities in India? What is your current installed capacity?

Various policy initiatives such as introduction of UDAY, amendments in National Electricity Act, new solar RPO target for states, biofuel policy, small hydro policy, offshore wind policy and new hydrocarbon policy have all contributed to growth of the industry. However, there is still a long way to go with some persisting issues requiring attention and resolution at the earliest, making the upcoming budget crucial to the energy sector.
