Seven years after quitting showbiz, comeback princess Fiona Xie is still the star everyone can’t get enough of.
Fiona Xie is understandably nervous about her TV comeback. When we first meet her at Lorong Halus, a deserted stretch of road near Pasir Ris Farmway, where she’s filming a scene for her upcoming Ch 5 drama Left Behind, the 34-year-old tells us that she’s “scared and reluctant to return to show business”, and that “when you’re on TV, you’re exposed to everything in every little way.” Fast forward one week, and we’re with Fiona at the seven-episode drama’s press conference where she’s meeting the rest of the local media for the first time since she left showbiz seven years ago. If she’s nervous, it’s certainly not obvious. The bubbly actress greets everyone with a loud “Hi!” and a hearty laugh that fills the venue before answering questions from the floor for 45 minutes. At one point, she even breaks down in tears when she talks about her critically ill 23-year-old cousin, who’s one of the reasons she’s back in town.
