The Mauritius Cinema Week is proof why the island and the movies make for a lucrative combo
The beautiful people of Mauritius hosted the first edition of The Mauritius Cinema Week between October 5-8, 2017 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Mauritius. An initiative by the Board of Investment and the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, it was one big island party with the objective of promoting the Film Rebate Scheme. And also, to position Mauritius as an attractive film production location in the presence of international film producers and celebrities from the world cinema industry. Filmfare and an elite squad of journalists from all parts of the world, were invited for the glorious do and made to experience the beauty of Mauritius and the movies.
Themed ‘Love’ and ‘Romance’, it was a week-long dream ride, graced by the presence of high-profile guests from the Hindi film industry, the South Indian film industry, Hollywood, France, the United Kingdom and South Africa. To begin with a lavish opening ceremony was held at the Chateau de Labourdonnais, where the organisers, participants, celebrities and press came together to know one another and share their excitement for the days to come. A visit to the beautiful island and gaining knowledge of world cinema, it was a journalistic haven.
