AGE: 26 VOCATION: Owner of the mixed martial arts fitness centre, MMA Matrix HIGHLIGHTS/ACHIEVEMENTS: Krishna learnt filmmaking for two years and made a documentary a few years ago, but, consequently, she moved to her first love – sports and athletics. She coached a basketball team at an academy for some time before launching her own MMA institute. WORLDVIEW: “It’s important to give your 100 per cent to everything you do. Either you are excelling at something or you shouldn’t do it at all.”
You learnt filmmaking for two years and made a documentary, Black Sheep, a few years ago. But, you have never really come in front of the camera, to act...
“Well, I was pretty sure from the beginning that facing the camera isn’t for me! Actually, acting never really intrigued me as such. I was always more interested in the production and direction aspect of filmmaking – whatever happened behind the scenes. I have grown up with two actors in the family, so I understand that you have to be really passionate about acting to be able to face the camera and do a sincere job while at it. As an actor, you have to live and breathe cinema – that is something I don’t connect with. I have always been a very competitive person by nature. So, whatever I do, I have to give it my 100 per cent and excel in it, or I won’t do it at all. I never felt like I could give cinema my 100 per cent, so I chose to remain out of it.”
Your father once referred to you as the “student of the year” in sports because you are great at whatever you take up and you also coached a basketball team at a sports academy, once?
“(Laughs) Yes, I’ve always considered myself to be athletic and I’ve almost always been inclined towards sports. Honestly, I am the happiest in the fitness field – playing a sport, being active, practicing and sweating it out... it’s what I feel the most passionate about.”
What drove you to start your own mixed martial arts academy, MMA Matrix? Do you feel strongly about women training in self-defense?
