The Voice UK star will.i.am opens up about filming the singing show through a pandemic and what the new coach brings to the mix

He’s been a coach on The Voice UK since it started in 2012, but will.i.am admits making the latest series during a global pandemic was a real first.

The hit producer is joined once again by Sir Tom Jones and Olly Murs and singer Anne-Marie will be stepping in for Meghan Trainor – who is on maternity leave.

“The screens that were put up for Covid were daunting at first. I got used to having a virtual audience and I really love it.”

The star, 45, admits jetting back and forth between the UK and LA was challenging but said his love for the show has helped him through. And eight years on, he insists the talent is getting better…

Hi, Will! How has filming been?

It’s been amazing. Anne-Marie is a beautiful addition. The screens that were put up for Covid were daunting at first. I got used to having a virtual audience and I really love it. I think it’s going to be the future of TV. Being able to see how they’re living while we’re filming is amazing.
