When you think of Davina McCall, it’s not only Big Brother that might come to mind, but also the fitness empire she’s created. Starting out with exercise DVDs, Davina’s brand has expanded hugely and during the first lockdown, she shared free access to her online fitness programme Own Your Goals.
After a crazy 2020, Davina is not slacking on her own personal goals, and her career’s looking healthy, too. The 53-year-old is back as a judge on The Masked Singer, she’ll also be copresenting the emotional ITV series Long Lost Family again with Nicky Campbell, and later this year, she’s working on the reboot of Changing Rooms with none other than Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.
Mum to Holly, 18, Tilly, 16, and 13-year-old Chester, Davina tells new how she keeps her eating on track, her podcast with boyfriend Michael Douglas, and why getting out into nature is vital for her fitness and her mental health…
Hi Davina! Despite this tough time, are you feeling good at the moment?
I am. There are always things I’d like to work on but I don’t strive for perfection because it doesn’t exist, and that will only make you miserable.
Your online fitness programme Own Your Goals was free for most of the first lockdown. Why did you do that?
It was, and around a quarter of a million people signed up, which is incredible. We knew that people would be suffering in various ways because it was such a tough time. We’re all aware of the amazing mental health benefits of exercise, and we were really keen to help out wherever we could.
