Former Boyzone heartthrob Ronan Keating has made the transition from boy-bander to DJ and TV presenter with ease, and a big part of that is down to his chemistry with Magic Breakfast co-host Harriet Scott.
The pair have been presenting the radio show together for the past four years and they have made it one of the most-listened-to programmes in the country – no mean feat when you consider just how many commercial stations are on the airwaves.
And when we sit them down for a chat, it’s clear their natural banter is part of the winning formula. Gently teasing each other and recalling stories of awkward tech mishaps, Harriet, 49, and Ronan, 44, are great company. It’s no wonder the nation loves waking up to them!
Here they talk about working together, meeting their heroes and Ronan’s joy at spending lockdown with his newborn baby daughter, Coco.
You’ve been presenting together for four years now. Did you guys hit it off straight away?
Harriet: Listen, it’s hard not to get on with Ronan. He’s alright really. At the time, I was covering the Breakfast Show on Magic for a day and then they said, “Oh, we’re gonna get Ronan Keating in with you.” I was probably a bit miffed, thinking, “Why do I need him? I’ve been doing this forever, what do I need a pop star upstart for?’ But we had a lovely time. It was brilliant.
Ronan: I think it took us a few weeks to properly get into a groove. I think this is probably the way for anyone working together in a situation like this. But it didn’t take us long. Now, every morning we walk in and from the get go, from the very first link at 6am, we’re there and we’re in it.
