Prince William has carried out his first official engagement after enjoying a relaxing summer off duty, as he met emergency workers to celebrate 999 Day.
The annual event – also known as Emergency Services Day – honours those who work and volunteer in the NHS and other emergency service departments across the country.
The 39-year-old appeared without his wife Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, also 39, on Thursday as he performed the solo engagement. It was days after the couple’s three children, Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, three, returned to school and nursery for the start of the new term.
The Duke of Cambridge headed to Dockhead Fire Station in south-east London, where he met emergency responders and members of the public who have received life-saving help and support.
