Broadcaster and TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher admits that despite the “highs and lows” of 2020, there have also been a lot of positives to take away from it.
While we got used to binge-watching Netflix and cramming in home workouts during a year of restrictions on our day-to-day lives, the 44-year-old has made the most of being cooped up indoors by spending some quality time with her two sons, Oscar, 14, and 10-year-old Jude.
“I’ve learnt not to take things for granted,” she tells us. “Before this we were used to going out for lunches, dinners and other material stuff and you don’t really need it.
“It’s nice to live a simple life – a simple life of family time with the boys and spending time doing stuff we take for granted. It’s quite nice to do some reading, or watch TV or learn a language. I can get a bit lazy, but I’ve enjoyed cooking and being adventurous.”
Another positive, she tells us, is finding the ability to be happy in her own company. The mum-of-two split from husband and former rugby ace Paul Sampson in 2014 and says she previously “hated” being on her own while the boys spent time with their dad.
“In the past I’ve struggled and when I didn’t have the kids I hated being on my own, but actually I’ve quite enjoyed my time doing things in the house and reading more,” she explains.
Professionally, she’s been busy with a flurry of work, including her podcast, Stripped Back Sport, and she’s also landed the job of hosting the first-ever Daily Record Pride Of Scotland awards.
