Kids from the 90s and 00s will know Katie Holmes best for her role as Joey Potter in Dawson’s Creek. The actress starred in all five series of the teen drama before embarking on a successful Hollywood career.
And it might be hard to believe, but the former teen idol is now a mum to her own teenage daughter, Suri – who is understandably her number one priority. The actress says of the 14-year-old, “I love her so much. My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality. To make sure she is 100 per cent herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it!”
Katie split from Suri’s father Tom Cruise in 2012 after nearly six years of marriage. At the time, Suri was just six, and Katie has said the very public demise of her marriage was “intense”.
“It was a lot of attention, and I had a little child on top of it,” the 41-year-old explained. “So many people I didn’t know became my friends and helped us out, and that’s what I love about the city.”
New York, the city in question, is where Katie and Suri call home, and have been isolating during lockdown. The star tells us, “In the beginning of the pandemic, New York was hit very hard. I feel horrible for everyone who’s lost someone.”
Thankfully, the world is tentatively opening up again and Katie’s newest film The Secret: Dare To Dream has just dropped on Apple TV. She will also soon begin work on her second directorial offering, the screen adaptation of Kathleen Tessaro’s 2016 novel, Rare Objects.
