Ever wondered how celebrities’ faces all seem to be perfectly symmetrical, in proportion and generally pleasing to the eye?
It’s not just down to good genes. The chances are that one tiny part of their face has been so precisely shaped that it’s bringing everything together – the eyebrows.
And there’s one name that every famous face has in their little black book of beauty secrets – Anastasia Soare. She’s the founder of Anastasia Beverly Hills make-up and brow studios, and the eyebrow guru behind some of Hollywood’s most famous arches, from Jennifer Lopez to Michelle Obama.
Romanian-born Anastasia, 64, is credited with making eyebrows a “thing”, having started out at a time when no one was paying much attention to what was going on above the eyes. Now ABH is a multimillion-dollar business, producing a whole range of make-up alongside its much-loved brow products.
OK! caught up with Anastasia to discuss exactly how to create the perfect brow...
What’s your earliest beauty memory?
From about the age of five I would go with my mother to the beauty salon. She was working long hours and Sunday was our only day to spend together. I’d watch her and the other women getting their hair done and having facials, and it was fascinating.
Was there one moment when you realised how important brows are to a person’s make-up?
In art school our teacher would make us draw four identical faces, and then draw different types of eyebrows on them – it was amazing how you could make the faces look happy, sad, surprised or angry just from the eyebrows. They’re so important for expressing emotion.
What made you decide to focus on eyebrows as a business?
