The youngest of four siblings at the helm of esteemed Thai jewellery empire Gems Pavilion, WORAWUT “FLOOK” AHCHARIYASRIPONG has been blessed with charming looks, success and a privileged lifestyle. Most surprisingly, he has remained a humble, laidback guy who prefers to lead a quiet life,
As you approach Gems Pavilion’s head office in Silom, you can’t help feeling impressed. The building’s modern, sleek design isn’t flashy, but there is still beauty in its minimalism. It turns out to be a metaphor of sorts for Worawut “Flook” Ahchariyasripong, whose easy demeanour makes him instantly likeable. Flook also supervised both design and construction of the Gems Pavilion’s building.
One of the founders of fine jewellery business Gems Pavilion, Flook was raised in a typical ThaiChinese home with brother Piya “Top” and sisters Janitha “Neung” (Thiravorachai) and Pranisa “Mai”.
“We’d eat dinner together and my parents would lecture us,” Flook recalls of their early childhood days. “They weren’t strict or anything like that, but we remember everything my parents had taught us. It’s so ingrained in who we are – it’s become part of our DNA.”
Those lessons became a driving force for Flook, and remain at the core of their family business’ philosophy today. “For example, they taught us to be honest and dependable. If you say you’re going to do something, you do it. And you have to be hard-working and never take advantage of other people,” he explains.
Within the first 10 minutes of the interview, it is already apparent that Flook takes these values to heart. You can see it in the way he greets you with genuine curiosity and interest, and when you see the way his employees look up to him with respect and admiration.
As a young child, Flook – by his own admission – wasn’t well-versed in the family business. When asked whether he was aware of what it encompassed, he laughs and shakes his head. “I had no idea. Not a clue. I was just like every other oblivious kid growing up.
