Scripting Neil’s Y&R death so soon after his portrayer, Kristoff St. John, passed away on February 3 was no easy task, reports Head Writer Josh Griffith.
“It was devastating, having known and loved Kristoff for so many years,” he tells Digest. “But I also knew he’d want a dramatic send-off. And I owed him an emotional story. Because of that, writing it was an integral part of the grieving process.” As for why the show opted to have Neil die, as well, Griffith adds, “We all felt it was the way Kristoff would want it done.”
The week begins on a high, with Abby and Devon celebrating the opening of their restaurant/nightclub, Society.
“The night is going very well,” sums up Bryton James (Devon). “The turnout is not only great, but Abby is even a little worried about how many people are showing up. But it’s a big success. Devon is also really enjoying his first date with Elena. Even though Hilary is a tough act to follow, it’s very organic and pleasant how Elena has come into his life.”
Devon is suddenly diverted by the arrival of Cane and Lily — together. “It’s a little surprising for Devon because he knows what happened between them since Lily’s been in prison, and that she wants out of their marriage,” James points out. “So Devon is a little confused because he doesn’t know if this means that they’ve reconciled or not.”
Christel Khalil (Lily) insists that “Lane” is not getting back together. “Cane and Lily already had the conversation where she told Cane not to read anything into them going together and he assures her that he knows that after this, they’re done,” the actress explains. “He just wants to do this one last thing for her. The twins have accepted what their mom wants, so they don’t get their hopes up.”
