PRINCE EDWARD was unusually candid during a rare interview with the BBC on June 10 to mark what would have been his father Prince Philip’s 100th birthday. When asked about the ongoing tension between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and the rest of the royal family, Queen Elizabeth II’s youngest son didn’t hold back. “It’s very sad,” said the 57-year-old. “It’s difficult for everyone, but that’s families for you.” Seeming to acknowledge Harry and Meghan’s very public complaints about royal life that they say led them to flee the UK last year, Edward remarked, “There are all sorts of issues and circumstances there,” adding, “We’ve all had that same spotlight shone on our lives. We all deal with it in different ways. We wish them the best of luck.”
They’re going to need it. According to an insider, things are about to heat up even more. Meghan — who gave birth to the couple’s second child, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on June 4 — is said to be seriously contemplating joining Harry for an upcoming trip to
London for the July 1 unveiling of a statue dedicated to his late mother, Princess Diana, on what would have been her 60th birthday. “Meghan wants to go back for the unveiling but nothing is set in stone,” says the insider. “They’re taking it day by day and are seeing how Meghan feels and what happens with Covid restrictions.”
