Your Daily Dose of Cuteness & Good Vibes

Baeby Baste

Baeby Baste fits the Pinoy definition of a cute kid—chubby, fair-skinned with pink cheeks, and bibo.

He’s literally the nakakagigil kind. And his cuteness—coupled with his obvious intelligence—became his passport to stardom.

It all started on Facebook.

In the Visayan city of General Santos (aka GenSan), which is geographically located within the province of South Cotabato in Mindanao, the cousins of Baste’s mom just couldn’t get enough of their nephew’s cuteness. So they decided to post videos of the kid on Facebook, in order to let the rest of their relatives and friends get their dose of the good vibes from their miniature pride.

“’Yong mga pinsan ko, sila ang nag-upload,” says Baste’s mother, known to Dabarkads and Baste’s fans as Mommy Sheila, although Baste calls her Mama. “Hindi pa ako marunong maggawa ng page sa Facebook noon.”

Baste, born August 22, 2012, was only one and a half years old at the time of the Facebook uploads, and his videos showed him praying “Angel of God,” enumerating the planets, and singing random kiddie songs.

The videos, supposed to be for friends and relatives only, soon became viral. Baste became an instant hit in GenSan, where his family runs a tuna farm. “Hanggang sa na-feature na siya sa iba’t ibang show sa GenSan, sa amin,” Mommy Sheila goes on. “Do’n na nag-start.”

His local fame soon caught the attention of Jessica Soho, whose newsmagazine TV show, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, is always on the lookout for Internet sensations. Jessica featured Baste on July 19, 2015, describing him as “cute, chubby, parang ang sarap-sarap yakapin at kurutin” and “makulit, bibo at palabati.”
