Punchy pricing for 165Hz, pity about that VA panel

AOC C27G2

BACK IN THE OLD DAYS of Intel’s Netburst architecture, CPUs were all about operating frequency. MHz marketing descended into mania, and eventually Intel and the rest of the industry had a total rethink in favor of multiples cores and more work done per clock cycle. Are gaming monitors going the same way with an over-emphasis on high refresh rates? 360Hz monitors are now a thing…

However, the new AOC C27G2 is a 1080p panel that tops out at 165Hz, so it’s firmly in the zone where there’s an unambiguous benefit in terms of fluidity and input response compared to a 60Hz screen. The C27G2’s job isn’t to push the upper limits of high refresh gaming, it’s to bring that buttery smooth 120Hz-plus experience to a wider audience.
