A precision productivity package

IF YOU’RE IN THE MARKET for a monitor, it’s hard to avoid all the hype. Dubious claims of HDR capabilities, ridiculously high refresh rates—it all seems rather tangential to, you know, getting something worthwhile done on your PC.

We love PC gaming, but too much of what dominates the current monitor mind space is gaming-centric, which is where the new Philips 279C9 comes in. It doesn’t really care about gaming.

That isn’t to say the 279C9 is a total dud when it comes to leisure—far from it. But it does offer what you might call a finely-tuned precision-productivity package. The core highlights involve a quality 27inch IPS panel with native 4K 3,840 x 2,160 resolution, plus USB-C connectivity with support for device charging.

Strictly speaking, the 279C9 is HDR certified. However, we’re talking VESA DisplayHDR 400, which doesn’t make for a genuine HDR experience.
