Jacq Buncio
Sixteen-year-old Jacquelyn Buncio, also known as Jacq, still doesn’t have a license to drive legally on the streets of Metro Manila. But on the racetrack, this young lady is already beating motorbike drivers twice her age, riding bigger and faster bikes in the various competitions she has joined.
In an arguably male-dominated sport, Jacq overtakes everyone with her passion and mindset. Let’s find out more what fuels this motorsport prodigy to hop on the bike, compete in the dangerous world of motorcycle racing, and win every time.
How does being tagged as the youngest motorsport prodigy in the country make you feel?
I’m really blessed to be called the youngest prodigy because being able to race alone, maswerte ka na kasi it’s very expensive. To have people who support you, parang nakaka-proud lang para sa sarili.
Does being called a prodigy pressure you?
Actually, no. Siguro kasi ‘yung mindset ko na when they call you a prodigy, you’re already achieving. The point na magiging nervous ako siguro is if other people are going to compare me with others. Dun na magsisimula ‘yung I need to perform better.
How did you start in motorsports?
It was [mid- or latter part of] 2013. May One Make Race ang Suzuki na pwedeng mag-ride ‘yung mga first time riders. I won the first time nung nag-ride ako. I didn’t feel anything special eh. There was nothing special about [winning]. Racing itself makes me happy; winning or losing won’t make change [that]. Basta racing is racing for me.
