Bonnie May negotiates the diet minefield and counting down to Valentine’s Day with its mix of emotions and expectations
SO, we’ve made it through what seems to be the darkest month ever! Yes, we’ve had a sneaky splattering of the white stuff to brighten our course slightly, but I can hand-on-heart say, whilst not exactly wanting to wish my time away, that I simply can’t wait for those longer and brighter days as I seem to rarely see daylight at home at the moment.
January is always a month of good intention. Often we all get off to a cracking start but, without the sun on our backs, sometimes the slog of being super good and healthy takes its toll early on – especially if, like me, it feels easy to fail the minute you are out of the starting blocks!
There is a minefield out there of how to transform yourself in a few weeks, and this is all based on ‘going on a diet’. However, after a very long chat with a friend who has battled the bulge and won, his advice is not to go on a diet – not to put a timeframe around how you want to look and when – as the goal really should be ‘how do I want to look and feel always’.
It’s not just for a day to squeeze into that dress for a big occasion! These, I truly believe, are wise words, and a change to your food and drink lifestyle can pay dividends for ever… not just a few months.
