There’s a tirade of tutting as our heroines arrive at a safe driving workshop, but at least some of it came in handy
IT IS a truth universally acknowledged that the more sober the surroundings the more likely two oh-so-easily distracted girlfriends will surrender to genetically helpless giggling.
Immature? Yep. Irreplaceable? Absolutely.
Hands up, I offer no excuses. If only because my original intention, attending a Drive Yourself Round the Bend (Safely) Workshop, was on the right track. It’s no bad thing, I decided, to brush up on those manoeuvring skills I mastered decades ago. Fancy joining me, I suggested to City Wife? The advice is bound to be useful given the seasonally slippery roads.
As it happened the date coincided with a Spoil Yourself to Happiness Symposium somewhere near the M40 so CW would pick me up en route. The plan was spot on. Unlike her timing. Still, waiting gave me the opportunity to dig out the Highway Code my daughter discarded the second she passed her test. I caught up on hand signals and was fingering the helmets section when my friend screeched onto the drive. Who knew The Chilterns could rival Islington High Street for classy clothes boutiques, she enthused, shoving numerous bags onto the back seat.
