Fletch fondly remembers head groundsman, referee liason officer and lifelong Cherries fan John Harriss who was devoted to supporting the club and its players
JOHN Harriss was a stalwart of AFC Bournemouth. He joined the club as groundsman in 1970 – a position he held for 37 years before becoming our referee liaison officer.
John was the first person I ever met at AFC Bournemouth, the day I signed for the club in 1992. First impressions are always really important when you are transferring from one club to another, especially when it was a move like mine from one end of the country to another. John was really welcoming, and he instantly made me feel at home before I’d even met the manager Tony Pulis. Without doubt John’s warm welcome played a part in me deciding to sign for AFC Bournemouth, as he made me think ‘what a nice club with good people working for them’.
