Primrose Season
Somerset Life|February 2018

The experts at Monkton Elm Garden Centre share some tips on preparing the garden for spring

Primrose Season

PRIMROSES and polyanthus are the mainstays of spring bedding – these members of the primula genus have long lasting, vibrant flowers, which will enhance pots and hanging baskets for weeks during February and March and they blend perfectly with other spring stalwarts, like pansies and violas. They are also used extensively in municipal bedding schemes, as they are economical to grow and easy to care for.

The bedding primrose has been bred extensively and many weird and wonderful flower colours now exist, even though they have all come originally from the pale lemon wild primrose. They can be transplanted into a semi shady spot in the garden after flowering, and should grow on perfectly well.
