LET’S face it, very few gardens smell good in winter. A combination of damp air, soggy soil and decaying plant matter make an unsavoury cocktail that results in many keeping their back doors locked until spring. Yet it doesn’t have to be this way. There are plenty of wonderful shrubs that will freshen the air outside, thanks to their perfumed flowers, helping to cheer up the most forlorn winter’s day.
