Streaming telemetry overcomes the inefficiencies of traditional telemetry

Telemetric network monitoring is a process by which network data points are sampled in real-time, collected, and then analyzed for trends and patterns – that, in turn, expose faults and anomalies. It is a very crucial part of the broadcast process, more so, because broadcast operators rely on network architectures more than ever. Monitoring of the network is an absolutely vital component to understand how the operation is functioning as a whole, which helps determine and rectify glitches in time. With the proliferation of streaming, VoD and OTT, telemetry has assumed key importance.

Years ago, the need for a standardized way to monitor and manage devices remotely, gave birth to the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) was born. SNMP made it easy for network management systems to request and receive data from the ever-growing numbers and types of devices on our networks. It did that by providing a standard protocol for collecting and organizing data about managed devices on IP networks, and affecting changes in their behavior, remotely.
