Just like her famous sisters, Nomsa Mazwai is frank and unbothered by criticism. We chat to the entrepreneur and singer about life, art and family.
SHE’S part of a family of unapologetically outspoken sisters. Together with her siblings, poet Ntsiki Mazwai and musician Thandiswa Mazwai, Nomsa Mazwai forms a formid able trio.
Nomisupasta, as she’s affectionately known, is just as jovial as her sisters when we catch up with her at home in Melville’s 7th Street.
It’s an impressive abode, even from the outside, and she credits this to the “goodlooking man” who does her garden.
“He’s big and strong and this is why my plants look so happy and vibrant,” she gushes. “He’s the magical handyman.”
It’s certainly a lovely environment in which to live and work.
On the subject of work, we note that she’s been quiet for a while now. Where has she been in hiding?
“I haven’t been quiet,” she insists. “Everyone just thinks I still live in New York, even though I moved back to South Africa almost four years ago. What have I been up to? I’m the General Manager of the Soweto Theatre, and that’s where I am most of the week. I have also released my selftitled album, Nomisupasta.”
