Raell Padamsee’s work reflects the legacy she received from her parents. The renowned theatre personality talks to Nikita Sawant about the joys of putting up plays.
Raell Padamsee may come from a family of theatre veterans, but the producer has created a niche for herself with her impressive musicals. Her company, ACE Productions, has put together a number of productions like the very popular and loved The Sound Of Music, Grease, and Elvis: Long Live The King, a musical tribute to the King of Rock and Roll. Taking a 180-degree turn, she also channels part of her creativity into children’s workshops and drama courses to teach them the basics of public speaking and theatre. We speak to her about what drives her passion for theatre.
You come from an illustrious theatre family. How has that shaped your passion for theatre?
I grew up in a house where I was exposed to theatre at an early age. With both my parents (Pearl and Alyque Padamsee) being involved in the theatre scene, and rehearsals frequently taking place in our living room, I was mesmerised with it from the beginning. I tried to be a part of my parents’ plays in whatever role I was assigned. Any role you play, be it on or backstage, teaches you a lot and is vital to your growth in the industry. That knowledge ignited a spark in me, and ever since, theatre has been my passion.
You’ve worked with your parents on several plays. How is it working with them?
