Bradley Wiggins must have a deep love for Lycra. That’s the only possible explanation as to why he’s signed up to take part in arguably TV’s most dangerous show, The Jump, after the last series saw a string of stars pulling out due to injury.

Even Wiggins himself seems unsure why he’s agreed to make the six-part Channel 4 series, again hosted by Davina McCall, his first big challenge since retiring from cycling last December.

‘I don’t know to be honest,’ laughs the five-time Olympic champion and Tour de France winner. ‘To be honest, I just want to improve my skiing. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed so I just want to be better at it.’

Here, the 36-year-old sporting legend reveals why he’s thrilled to be hitting the Austrian slopes…

After what happened in the last series, are you worried about getting injured?

No, not at all. People go skiing and hurt nature of the sport. It’s a good show and I’ve always enjoyed watching it, so I’m pleased to be here.

You must have been offered lots of reality shows...
