The terrifying world of Gilead is back on our screens this week when harrowing dystopian drama The Handmaid’s Tale returns for a fourth season.
Based on Margaret Atwood’s novel, the series is set in a totalitarian, religious society – established after a second American Civil War – where women are brutally oppressed.
Since the show debuted in 2017, we’ve watched rebellious handmaid June (Elisabeth Moss) fight back against the evil authorities and desperately try to escape to Canada in order to reunite with her husband, Luke (O-T Fagbenle).
We last saw a fugitive June working with secret resistance network Mayday to help a group of children escape on a plane to Canada – but refusing to join them without her stolen daughter, Hannah.
SURVIVING
As June distracted the guards at the airfield, she was shot, and her fate appeared to hang in the balance. Now, as the drama returns to C4, we find that June is still alive, though badly injured.
