George Clooney’s new Netflix film might be arriving on our screens in time for Christmas, but it isn’t exactly festive. The Hollywood star plays a 70-year-old scientist, Augustine, who tries to fulfill his dying wish to stop astronaut Sully (Felicity Jones) and her space crew from returning home to a mysterious global catastrophe.
Living in the freezing Arctic and suffering from cancer, the odds are stacked against Augustine, and matters are only complicated further when he discovers a little girl, Iris, who has been hiding out, and now needs his help to survive.
Clooney, 59, was so impressed when he read the film’s script that he asked to direct the movie as well.
