The longest-serving cast member in the current line-up of BBc1’s crime drama Silent Witness, leading lady Emilia Fox has clocked up an astonishing 14 series as forensic pathologist Nikki Alexander.

Since joining the show in 2004, Emilia, a member of the Fox acting dynasty [turn the page to read about her cousin, Lewis star Laurence’s new role], has continued to work in theatre, film and other TV shows, but with Silent Witness providing the frame around which she plans her professional life.

Like Emilia, who was engaged to comedian Jim Moir (aka Vic Reeves), married to The Crown star Jared Harris and had an on-off relationship with chef Marco Pierre White, Nikki’s had an up-and down love life that has gripped fans.

In this week’s new two-part investigation, it takes another turn as a handsome US diplomat woos Nikki at an embassy reception.
