CORONATION STREET

MON, WED & FRI / ITV / TIMES VARY / SOAP

Stalwarts like Ken Barlow and Rita Tanner have been the backbone of Coronation Street for decades, but right now, they’re being given a run for their money by some of the younger Weatherfield locals.

In the moving hate-crime storyline, the teens of the Street have become iconic characters in the making, with the actors smashing it.

‘They’re phenomenal; that’s the simple way to describe them,’ says show boss Iain MacLeod.

‘Those that are playing the more sympathetic characters are doing it with incredible heart and believability, and those playing characters that are less so have just embraced that, and gone at it with a professionalism that would be a credit to actors who have been in the business for years. I couldn’t be more proud!’

‘Nina is the perfect role’

Mollie Gallagher, 23, joined the cast in late 2019 as Roy’s niece, Nina Lucas

‘I always wanted the perfect role, and Nina is the perfect role. Reading a script for the first time, you get a vibe for a character, and I knew that there was going to be a lot of depth to her, which, as an actor, is amazing. She’s clever and logical, and can work people out very quickly – I wish I was as smart as her!
