You don’t become a two-time Olympic boxing champion without a lot of grit and determination. But even Nicola Adams found herself pushed to her limits when she joined Bear Grylls in Dartmoor for the latest installment of his Wild Adventure specials for ITV.

Here, Bear, 46, reveals how Nicola fared…

First, you put England rugby ace Jonny Wilkinson through his paces, and now it’s Nicola! How do you decide who’s suited for these once-in-a-lifetime experiences?

We always try to pick people whose stories will inspire viewers. Both Jonny and Nicola are icons of their sports, and being able to find out about their journey to stardom and their struggles was a real privilege.

The wild is a great leveller, isn’t it?

And also a revealer. Nicola’s episode is all about being positive in the storms and keeping going. We can all do so much more than we sometimes believe and life is a gift that is best lived boldly. Nicola shines here!
