Kris Marshall explains why he’s departing Saint Marie’s sun-drenched beaches as Ardal O’Hanlon reveals what’s in store for new police chief Jack Mooney…

Welcome To Paradise

GOODBYE HUMPHREY…

Why are you leaving, Kris?

Well, I’m a giving person, and it’s very selfish of me to take all the good beach jobs! [laughs]. No, I’ve had four marvellous years on the show, I’ve had a ball, but my son starts school in September and my daughter was born last January. She was only three months old when I left to do this series, so my family couldn’t fly out with me this year and I really missed them. Much as I have cherished this role, my family has to come first.

No regrets, then?

I am a bit cautious about letting go. They say, ‘don’t quit the hit’ and I’ve done it twice now, with this and My Family. I’m already thinking maybe I’ve made the wrong decision… what have I done?! If you see me in an underpass selling the Big Issue, please chuck me a couple of quid. I’ve got a really lovely part in the play Ugly Lies the Bone at the National Theatre this month, so I’m looking forward to that, and then I’d love to do more TV.

What will you miss most?
