Dig out your dirhams and don your biggest hat, the Dubai World Cup is back.
In a city stacked with superlatives, the Dubai World Cup remains atop the table of the city’s glitziest social calendar entries, despite the US$10 million (Dhs36m) flagship event having recently lost the title of the world’s richest horse race. While it was pipped to the post by the USA’s Pegasus World Cup in January, where the group one winner picked up US$12 million (Dhs44 million), the US$30 million (Dhs110 million) up for grabs on the day at Meydan means the Dubai contest still has the largest overall prize pot (and rumours abound the stakes are going to be increased by 2020). Prize pot aside, with plenty of off-field action, from a huge after-concert to the hotly-contested Jaguar Style Stakes race, there’s still plenty to draw the city’s most stylish crowd.
